Music In The Park

Our first neighborhood event since the pandemic hit a year ago took place Sunday, March 21 in Bud Zisson Park.  Eve N' Paparo entertained us with their musical talents while neighbors enjoyed the local food  from BBQ Down and Best French Fries food truck.

Shores residents of all ages enjoyed time getting outdoors and meeting new neighbors while also spending time with those close to them.

The new Events and Social Media Committee have more Music in The Park events planned.  Keep an eye out on our website, Facebook and signs for more information on the next hosted events.

Fifth Annual Holiday Plant Swap

Happy New Year 2021. Our 5th Annual Holiday Plant Swap was a great success. Thank you to everyone who swapped unique plants:  Mango, Cacti, Palms, Air Plants, many natives (I have yet to verify all the plant names),  Papaya,  Everglades Tomatoes,  Bananas, and Lemongrass. We enjoyed meeting gardening enthusiasts. This year I want to recognize Jaimie who drove all the way from St. Lucie West!  New neighbors Sara and Nathan and many friends from last year's plant swap stopped by to swap and say hello.

I was surprised by Amarah, my VA colleague and her friend who lives in The Shores. A big thank you to my husband Steve for helping me and to everyone who donated plants and attended our plant swap this year!

The leftover pineapple plants were donated to the VA Therapeutic Gardening Program.  The VA Therapeutic Gardening Program was started in September, 2005 to provide healing opportunities for Veterans using the modality of Therapeutic Gardening.  West Palm Beach VA has five gardens and a working farm on site. These gardens are maintained by VA Volunteers and Palm Beach County Master Gardeners.  The gardens and farm are utilized by VA staff as part of Veterans' rehabilitation.  VA is not permitting volunteers on site at this time due to COVID-19.  We hope this restriction will be lifted very soon.  For more information about how to grow plants in Subtropical Zone 10, please contact the Master Gardener Program Hotline at Mounts Botanical Garden.

The Shores HOA Compliance Activity Update

It has been a little over a year since the Shores of Jupiter Board of Directors approved invoking the State Statute 720.305 and enabled the Shores of Jupiter management company to enforce those in violation of declarations of covenants, articles of incorporation, bylaws, or any other rules that have been properly instituted by the board.

What have we learned? In taking the liberty in speaking for the board, these are some of things that have occurred as a result of taking the unenviable course to pursue punitive, monetary fine actions for inaction from violations:

There are volumes of residents who did not correct identified issues from the first 30-day notice requiring certified mail notices and more follow-up inspection tours by our management company. During the first 100 percent community inspection there were over 150 violations notices for discolored/dirty roofs and driveways alone.

The good news is as a result of the April 2020 actions over 95 percent were corrected before the fine committee was to meet to make decisions regarding assessing up to $1,000 fines. The program has resoundingly achieved success. Prior to inception, there were many residents who simply ignored a first notice, second notice and multiple follow-up notices. The fine process no longer allows inaction without financial punitive consequences.

To date, there are a handful of residents who have failed to correct their violations and after over a five-month notification process have now been assessed fines up to $1,000.

Results are everything: As a result of the April efforts it was recognized a significant improvement in aesthetics with roofs and driveways and sidewalks cleaned.

Sidewalks: It has now been clarified that enforcing cleaning sidewalks is not possible as they belong to the Town of Jupiter. However, notices sent in April resulted in most of sidewalks being cleaned and there were at least 200 notices sent regarding that specific issue. The board has contracted a pressure washing company to clean all homeowner’s sidewalks and will review the results/aesthetic impact to determine if this is something to include in future budgets and remove it from any notice process for compliance.

COVID-19: It has been recognized that a few homeowners were adversely affected by the pandemic and that was recognized and acknowledged and grace periods were provided for a temporary time in order for the homeowner to recover from any medical or financial challenges.

Santa Came Early

I had no idea. My friend next door, Ross, sent a note inviting me to join other neighbors to await the arrival of Santa. I thought he meant Christmas Eve. Then on Saturday evening, Dec. 19, he sent another text asking whether I

was coming out for Santa. I looked out front and saw our Lake Bend Tribe gathered around a firepit in his driveway, distancing of course. Everybody, as it turned out, knew of the event. For me oblivion has become my watchword.

Santa came in the guise of Jupiter firefighters in a caravan of vehicles, lights flashing, sirens blaring, shouting Merry Christmas! The Jupiter Fire Department drove all through The Shores carrying the joy message. Our kids and adults were delighted. By then, our tribe was enjoying the night life

and greeted our heroes heartily.

How did this happen? I subsequently learned that Shores homeowner, Kristi Parker, is the coordinator of the event in terms of posting the event notice on our new website, which she created and set into action. Kristi worked with Alexa of Realtime, our property management firm, to have an eblast

to homeowners for whom we have an email address. As the procession passed by, I heard a familiar laugh. It was Kristi’s husband, Barry, riding on a flatbed shouting Merry Christmas!

It was a statement of Esprit De Corps.

Holiday Decorating

In the spirit of this Christmas season, we must highlight a resident that takes the Yuletide in the Shores Community to a Disney World- level atmosphere. Jim Kuretski’s Christmas display is nothing short of visually stunning. 100s of Shores residents each year tour Breezewood Court with their families so that they catch a glimpse of what the North Pole would look like on earth. So…what really makes this Christmas display one of kind? Is it the 150 meticulous setup hours with inviting carols playing in the background, could it be the craftsmanship of the hand-carved décor passed down through multiple generations, or simply the feeling of being transported to a place of angelic noel…It has been a trying year for many. We know for us, it is

the look of excitement on our son’s face when he asks to see Mickey or Pinocchio at least 2x a day lol. Jim goes live the day after Thanksgiving, so this holiday season make sure to stop by and create your own reason why.
